Why Wisdom Teeth Need to Be Removed

Did you get your wisdom teeth? Did they hurt like no other coming in? They call them wisdom teeth, but if they get infected or some other affliction, you need to see a Castro Valley dentist as soon as possible. For the vast majority, the eruption of the wisdom teeth can cause tremendous amounts of pain and discomfort.

The term “impacted tooth”, in simpler terms, means that there’s just not enough room in your mouth anymore, which is likely to happen with wisdom teeth. Your wisdom teeth can be blocked as it erupts, or it can erupt sideways or may even be tilted. Either way, your wisdom teeth do not spell good news for you as it can cause swelling and infection on the flap of gum on top of it. And well, this can hurt, A LOT.

If the infection resulting from the wisdom tooth is not treated and removed surgically, the infection can spread to the throat, or into the neck. In worse cases, removal will not only require surgery, but also an extended stay in the hospital.

Other complications resulting from impacted wisdom teeth are cavities, unnecessary tooth movement, tooth decay or gum disease. There are also cases where the erupting of the wisdom teeth changes the way your teeth comes together, causing a dental malocclusion.

No matter how you look at it, removing the wisdom teeth is the only way to relieving any related pain and preventing future dental complications. So as soon as you feel some pain coming on, take some ibuprofen and make a dental appointment ASAP.
